Book launch and reading session of A Game of Consequences

Join Gerry Moloney as he launches his debut novel. He received the Certificate in Creative Writing for Publication at the National University of Ireland and is a founder member of the Sapphire Writers Group at The Irish Writers Centre. Miles ‘Tiger' O'Toole, the bank's new Chief Executive, is determined to make his mark. He unleashes a roller coaster expansion drive where profit targets are everything, and no prisoners taken. Ethical standards go out the window. It's time for customers, staff and shareholders to buckle their safety belts. As tensions mount, his steadfast deputy Des Peters realises he faces a stark choice. Should he remain loyal to his employers, or wave goodbye to his rewarding career? Narrated with humour and wry observation by an experienced former investment banker, "A Game of Consequences" is an engrossing contemporary exploration of organisational power, greed, and corruption.

Author Teresa Peterson at Better Read Than Dead Bookstore - Sydney Australia

Teresa Peterson, author of 'Daphne Du Maurier: Looking Inward', will be at the Better Read Than Dead bookstore in Sydney Australia on Tuesday 10th October from 6:15pm. You can RSVP to the event here.  Teresa's visit to the bookstore is part of the monthly Jane Austen Book Club - an ode to Austen and other timeless authors. In this well-researched and crafted study of Daphne du Maurier's novels and short stories, author Teresa Petersen explores the possibility that incest is at the core of du Maurier's craft. Her argument is that the theme of incest occurs so frequently that it is not a coincidence. Weaving an analysis of du Maurier's personal history with her well-known novels and short stories, Petersen contends that the writer's intense relationship with her father, Gerald, and to a lesser extent, her much older cousin, Geoffrey, shaped the narrative of all that she wrote. From the subtle father-daughter marriage in Rebecca to the grotesque infanticide in The Progress of Julius to the revelatory short story, ‘A Border-Line Case', Petersen makes a clear argument that will have readers reconsidering du Maurier's works from a completely different angle.

David Munro of 'The Time Jigsaw' at Rutherglen Library

David Munro, author of 'The Time Jigsaw' and 'The Time Jigsaw Deliverance', will be at Rutherglen Libary on Tuesday 10th October at 2pm.  'The Time Jigsaw' 'The Time Jigsaw' focuses upon James Carsell-Brown, a native of Scotland whose life begins to change when living in Nice. He meets pretty Michelle Duvallier, whom he believes is the woman of his dreams. But appearances can be deceptive. After the body of a young woman matching Michelle's description is washed up on a beach, all hell breaks loose. He is kidnapped and, upon his escape, decides to flee to the calmer waters of Scotland. In Scotland, though, he faces new challenges - time travelling from one period to another quite by chance. 'The Time Jigsaw Deliverance' Away from their native Scotland for seventeen years, James and Elizabeth Carsell-Brown have enjoyed their time living in New York, James working in a Wall Street firm and Elizabeth putting her artwork up for sale in a local retailer, including a very special painting of her previous coachman in Scotland who had in fact saved her life many years ago. However, it is 1929 and the economy is taking a turn for the worse. With life changing events and depression taking hold of many businesses and families, people are becoming desperate and willing to take extreme action. With robberies and murders turning into an almost daily occurrence, James's and Elizabeth's lives become in danger. James has many lucky escapes and it seems that he has a guardian angel saving him from threat at exactly the right time. Sadly, James's luck runs out, leaving Elizabeth bereft and alone in the big city. Elizabeth decides to take a chance, leaving New York to return to her native Scotland, and it seems that she has some unfinished business.

Library visit by The Bee Hive’s author Simon Adepetun

Simon Adepetun is visiting Wallasey Village library to talk about his book. The Manchester born has mostly lived in Warrington. He has a degree in English Studies and a Postgraduate certificate in Theatre Studies from the University of Manchester. Working as full time sales manager, Simon enjoys spending quality time with his family and writing. The children’s book is also a treat for the adults where eleven-year-old Daniel Jeremiah Chambers has parents Philip and Susan who love work and shopping and who just don't listen. Daniel is an only child ... no, he's lying ... he has a sister, Alice, who has a dolly fixation; Dan is sure she is an alien. So, Dan has a few problems, none insurmountable, until his friend, Benji, introduces him to the find of the century - a derelict bee hive which could become a den. Of course, such a simple thing is never so simple and when Dan finds a map well, all kinds of things just go horribly wrong. For example - Alice noses her nosey way in and two strange men suddenly turn up wanting what's theirs - and then there's the bank, too. "The Bee Hive" by Simon Adepetun is a tight little sharp-witted bumble through a short period in Dan's young life.
