Gurland got each of her titles featured at the “BookStop” page of Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) on October 1st, 2020. Emily’s devotion to words and their usage led her to seek a career as a “WORD MAVEN”, a term she created after hearing those around her, most notably her grandmother. Olives Where Are You? encourages the readers to let go of things that are familiar and try new and different things. The book is a contemporary family account of a child’s insistence and her parents’ patient persistence. Emily rejects all the attempts of her parents to make her experiment with new food. Only through her own process of self-discovery, she finds an alternative to olives. G.B is an educator, who has worked with children, teenagers, and young adults facing reading and literacy challenges. She is the author of the highly praised novel, The Secret Files of Phineas Foster, and edited and published several workbooks about vocabulary development.
