Dream in a Suitcase is the memoir of Romanian-American author, Domnica. It narrates the story of her escape from the dark dictatorship of Romania to Chicago, US. She fled to the US in 1983 as a political refugee chasing her dreams and aspirations of a free, independent life full of hope. She narrates how immigrants in the US come with high expectations for their lives. She has foretold the uplifting of the iron curtain from her native Romania and how her motherland dwelled afterward. She terms Chicago and Virginia in a surreal manner as centers of beauty and literature. It’s a must-read for people who want to move to the US. It is full of multi-cultural descriptions of her motherland Romania and the adoptive US.
