Book signing of ‘Olives Where Are You?’ by Gail Gurland at Barnes & Noble
Gail Gurland rocked her book signing! She was invited by Barnes & Noble (2614 Central Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10710). Children were delighted to learn about her book, ‘Olives Where Are You?’ which highlights the importance of children forming their own sense of independence.
The book is about a girl who will eat nothing but olives. Her parents encourage her to try different foods but she wouldn’t touch any. She is obsessively fond of olives and loves to have them for every meal. The story is a nice dance between her insistence and her parent’s persistence. Gradually, she does come along and discovers there is another food she can love as much as olives, but it is only through her own sense of exploration. The book is an invitation to join the journey of self-discovery and let go of customary likes and explore new options. It is a fine read for young readers and their parents as it offers the idea of letting children explore for themselves and learn them at their own rather than forcing them or making choice for them.
Gail Gurland has also authored a middle-grade novel ‘The Secret Files of Phineas Foster’, and published several workbooks for vocabulary development. She has extensive experience of working with children, adolescents and young adults, through her career of teaching which spreads over four decades.
