In Hugger Mugger tells the story of two women, one a member of the nobility and one a commoner who are both constrained by their sex and position to live the lives they want. They are forced to hide, to lie and to suffer in order to survive under the English laws.

Mary Sidney, a noblewoman, vows to write the greatest works in the English language, to fulfil the ambition of her deceased brother, but she must use trickery and deceit to have her writings published. Sarah Burton, a commoner, scarred by a nobleman, uses her intellect to outfox the Crown.

After a chance meeting, the women form a friendship that enables them to get what they desire most.

In Search of My America

In Search of My America is one of the few Korean American women's autobiographies published in the United States. Being a woman of color trying to rise in an academia dominated by the white male, I had to play an all-American negating her ethnic background. Being a non-native speaker teaching English to native speakers, I had to play a consummate professional in denial of her accent. Being an Asian woman whose sexuality has been historically objectified and has been equated to that of a Madame Butterfly, I had to play a fiercely independent woman without an ounce of a submissive attitude. In In Search of My America, I describe the intimate details of the mask I had to wear to cope with cultural and racial stereotypes. 

In Search of My America is about a spectrum of issues, including my naïve American dream and rude awakening, my process of Americanization, my loneliness as an expatriate, my endeavors to reconcile the conflicting demands of human sexuality and intellect, and my attempt to build bridges between different worlds. I weave a giant piece of embroidery with all these components and set them against a series of tales created from Korean myths, bilingual metaphors, folklore, and legends.

Inevitable Consequences?

In the aftermath of the Mexican-American War, the Espinosa brothers are enraged by the mistreatment of Mexican Nationals in the newly acquired American territories. They embark on a rampage spanning vast distances through northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, killing and robbing American men. Tom Tobin, a skilled hunter, occasional army scout, rancher, and seasoned Indian fighter, is tasked by the commander of Fort Garland to track down the Espinosas.

This gripping story delves into Tobin’s history and exploits, while also depicting the events and circumstances that shaped the Espinosas’ lives. The acquisition of the Southwest through the U.S.-instigated war with Mexico forever changed the lives of the Mexicans who had called those lands home for generations.

As Tobin pursues the notorious brothers across the rugged frontier, readers are taken on a thrilling journey through a tumultuous period in American history, exploring the complexities of the Mexican-American War and its impact on the people caught in its wake.

Innocence

I based my book Innocence on the Partition of India in 1947. Innocence follows Shukumar, the male protagonist. He grew up in a repressed society like India, in which open sexuality is taboo and kept hidden. However, in Western culture, it is accepted and embraced as a natural human characteristic. So, when he settled in Europe, coming into contact with open sexual expression had a dramatic impact. This gave the illusion of sexual freedom and gratification that led to social decadence and ‘Hell’. Shukumar plunges himself into the inferno to taste Hell and encounters death but survives. Kakoli-the female protagonist who was gang raped by the Moslem goondas during riots and dumped into a ditch escaped death. The author talks about the human animalistic passion for killing and thirst for blood that has stained the psyche of humanity.

Shukumar and Kakoli struggled to survive and beat all the odds stacked against them. They turned their misfortune into a powerful guiding spirit that created a new beginning filled with hope. This new beginning was filled with a belief that humanity can overcome all the tragedies and sufferings that came into their lives. Their story is a tale of innocence!

Inside... But Out!

Inside…but Out! encapsulates the personal experiences of Eric Clemons, who grew up in inner-city Chicago, Illinois, and found his way into the upper echelon of network and regional sports television, including ESPN Sports Center, Fox NFL Sunday, and other stops along the way. With much of today’s conversation around how people from different backgrounds “code switch,” Clemons had to deal with all those “unwritten rules” African Americans and others might come up against in the corporate world, having to find his own way in the ’80s and ’90s, which was totally uncharted territory for him. Clemons ran into plenty of the game’s biggest stars and has covered more than his share of big moments, including Mike Tyson’s first career loss at the hands of James Buster Douglas in Tokyo and Michael Jordan’s first NBA title with the Chicago Bulls. With that excitement came the constant and often covert obstacles that seemed to show up at nearly every career stop!

Into the Attic Darkly

Into the Night is the story of a boy and his dog on a journey into the unknown, and a metaphor for going within, or simply, intuition. Along the way, they have many discoveries, and even find the key to saving humanity. Told in lyrical language, this book is beautifully illustrated and a perfect bedtime story for children.
