In My Journey Through Hip-Hop, experience the pulsating beats and soulful rhythms of the genres history through the lens of a Chicago native. This debut collection chronicles hip-hops evolution, from the groundbreaking beats of DJ Kool Herc to the lyrical genius of J. Cole. Seamlessly weaving album titles, song references, and lyrical snippets, this anthology paints a rich tapestry that both celebrates and demystifies one of musics most dynamic genres. More than just a retelling, each poem dances to the rhythm of hip-hop, blurring the lines between lyrical cadence and poetic structure. Dive in for an immersive experience that educates and resonates, but be warned — this journey comes with its own parental advisory.

Upon hearing Ready to Die by The Notorious B.I.G., Felipe Joe felt fear. A vivid, wild picture of life in the streets, the album ignited what would become a lifelong love for hip-hop. Raised in Chicago with his older sister and parents, Felipe Joe spent his early years obsessed with sports. After dropping out of high school at 17, he later received his GED and would go on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from Columbia College Chicago. My Journey Through Hip-Hop is his publishing debut.
