Overcoming Life's Challenges

The author tells his story of being born under the Gemini star sign, living a life defined by an unremitting struggle between the conflicting twins of “Yes, I can” and “No, you can’t!” It describes a struggle of early childhood uncertainty, being hidden as a child, of unanswered questions and preferring to be in the background during his childhood through to his middle years. Generally surrendering to the opinions of others, while holding back on his own views, was the hallmark of his being.

Hesitating to take on challenges was a familiar pattern, as was the likelihood of yielding to mediocracy, the easy way out. Tilting the balance away from “No you can’t” to “Yes, I can … and I will” was the major factor in the author’s life towards holding leadership positions in every sphere of his adult public life, from committee secretary early in his professional career to becoming Cape Town’s first citizen. From the mayoralty to ministry, standing up for justice and the dignity of life and being able to make a difference was the path he chose; mediocracy simply was not good enough.

Owed to My Mother

P is for Pickelhaube

Pacific Musick

January 1938... For two years, Pan American's magnificent Martin M130 flying boats have been safely and routinely carrying passengers from San Francisco to Hong Kong. Pam's Traveling Coat Collection

I have been crushed into suitcases and backpacks. I’ve been snowed on and sleeted on and windblown. I’ve climbed to heights no self-respecting coat should ever have to endure. I’ve ridden on subways, trains, and trolleys, flown in planes, and ridden in derelict taxis. I’ve bumped along on a donkey. I have felt like I was flying in the back of a pickup truck tearing across desert flats and dunes. I’ve waded into rivers and oceans and across streams on slippery rocks. I have even traveled on a Navy warship clear across the Pacific Ocean and helped steer it for just a little while. I’ve petted elephants in the wild and watched a cheetah hunt his weekly meal. I’ve climbed towers into what seemed to be the very clouds and crossed a bridge over a waterfall so tall and wide I couldn’t see the end or the bottom of it. And more! It’s been a lot for a coat to do! Join me in my travels!

Pam's Traveling Coat Collection - Book II

I’ve been loaded into suitcases and backpacks and tossed into airplane cargo holds for long rides around the world. I’ve survived windstorms and snowstorms, sandstorms and ocean waves. I know about subways and railways and all ways of travel from place to place. I have seen things from rickshaws, riverboats, canal boats, the back of a donkey and a camel. I’ve petted an elephant and a cheetah and lived to tell the tale.

Stairways into what seemed like the very clouds have been part of almost every adventure!

There are so many places to go. So many places to see. I encourage you to go explore. It’s a big, big world and it’s waiting for you.

Papayo: The Peruvian Puppy

Papayo is a Peruvian puppy who enters each day with excitement as he conquers many adventures with which he is faced. From exploring the Andes Mountains along the Inca Trail, to daily chores on his small village farm; readers get a glimpse into the lives of the free-roaming dogs in South America! Papayo is a real puppy living outside of Cusco, and I had the pleasure of meeting him during my travels to Peru. My own heart felt compelled to share this story since Papayo reminded me so much of my own puppy, Felix, back home in Charlotte, North Carolina. Yet, they lived completely different lives. Children and families of all ages can enjoy the heartfelt tale of Papayo: The Peruvian Puppy.

Party on the Moon

Party on the Moon follows the rise and dominance of the world’s top event producer as she navigates a corrupt industry, its insidious players, and the malcontent clients upon whose riches her empire is built.

Our mercurial lead character’s success is fully intertwined with the deterioration of her moral code, fueled by copious amounts of sex, drugs, and malicious behavior that only seems to enable her success. As she grows older, she starts to fear that her life has passed her by in one big party blur and she is lacking any real connection to the outside world, as well as a legacy that could potentially continue on.

The book’s curious title foreshadows an ending fit for a provocative and intriguing character that burns the candle at both ends…just long enough to hopefully find salvation.
