The woman in this book is tormented by her painful past. Poverty renders her defenseless and she lack the nurturing guidance that is imperative for a firm foundation in adolescence. Despair and desperation leaves her vulnerable and she is easily lured by the illusions of the night. As she stumbles through the darkness of treacherous worlds she finds nothing stable to rely on. All she was subjected to reduces her to nothing — her shame was immense.

But her soul is wise and ferocious, and dwells only in the realm of possibilities. She understands that evolution is always possible. She takes on an inner journey, and even as resentment resurfaces, she supplants her vulnerabilities and reaches deep within herself turning depression into realizations, her anxiety into hope. She builds a new life. She decides to expose her story and reveal her pain as a way to help others.

Guzelle De Bruyn has been a HIV/TB counselor for many years and this book is her first attempt at being an author. The thoughts and ideas in this book are her life’s work. She is a single mother with a 12-year-old daughter and lives with her twin sister and her daughter. Guzelle is working on her second book. She is still residing in Beaufort West.
