This poetry collection, like a cerebral train, travels through the varied landscapes of my thoughts, opinions, and life experiences. Words collide with syllables, erupting into vivid imagery that reaches the far recesses of the imagination. These poems are my literary children: sometimes impulsive, but always carrying a message. I hope this collection touches you like the warmth of the sun’s rays on a somber October afternoon.

Michael John Carignan has published several individual poems in literary magazines and newspapers. He published his first collection, Chrysalis, with Austin Macauley Publishers in 2021. The author’s second collection, Free Admission to My Mind, is a deeper collection comprising many new poems. Mike started writing poetry in 1975 in high school. He graduated from Keene State College in 1979 majoring in psychology with a minor in both film and art. He recently began dabbing into standup comedy already going on stage twice in recent months.

I am an alumnus of Amherst College where Robert Frost taught poetry for over thirty years. It was such a pleasure to read the poems written by another gifted New England poet, Michael Carignan, in his book 'Free Admission To My Mind'. I am certain that Robert Frost would enjoy Michael's poems just as I have. I was with Michael and his brother Timmy when they traversed the upside down covered bridge pictured on the cover. That bridge will always hold a special place in our hearts, as will Franklin, the New Hampshire town where we spent our youth. So many of the poems in Michael's book touched my heart. His poems about "those tranquil hot afternoons at Webster Lake", "his early morning stroll at York Beach in Maine", one of my favorite places on earth, "his time in the navy, far from the distant shore", his poem about "our childhood adventures in Woodslake, "the old forgotten cemetery along a long dirt path in Franklin". "Wild violets still cry their names after perishing in the mowed grass". Just like those violets, Michael's poems will call out and be read by readers long after he is gone. This book of his poems is truly a gift to all who are blessed to read it.
