Poetry is the most expressive of the various forms of the written language. It allows one to describe events, experiences, people and emotions in an imaginative manner. The poems in this anthology illustrate the writer’s belief that the natural world and the emotions of the individual are interconnected. That the rhythm and imagination within the mind of the individual is inherent within the forces, the beauty of the physical world. The author believes that poetry, expressed in simplistic words can lift the heart, cause old romances to live again and transpose oneself into the natural world as a participant, not just an observer.

The surrealist poet, Jerry Edwards, lives in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. His home is literally in the shadows of the Catalina Mountains. He describes himself as a 12-year-old boy, disguised as an 82-year-old grandfather. He’s also said that he’d once been a 12-year-old boy, disguised as a business executive. This anthology of poetry, Venus – A Point of Expression, is his second publication of poetry in as many years. His first book, Memories in Technicolor, was released in June 2023. A reader, critiquing his writing, commented that he was obviously, “a hopeless romantic”. Edwards pleads guilty to the description!

The poetry in this book is wonderfully written. It evokes a strong sense of the beauty of nature and how it impacts our view of the world and how we love others, The poems in this collection touch on a variety of themes. Memories of childhood, family, romance, and love won and lost. It allows us to view these memories through the prism of living life to the fullest and highlights the things that are worth remembering after the passage of time. I highly recommend this collection.
