In the heart of Kwetu, where tradition holds firm, Bratha Mine’s world shatters. His hopes for a better future crumble when he is framed for a murder he didn’t commit – until vengeance becomes his purpose. He turns his fury on the Security Council, a ruthless cabal pulling the strings of power. But an even deadlier enemy lurks: Thanatos, a tech-savvy assassin who never misses his mark.

As the stakes soar, Bratha is thrust into a battle where truth is treason and survival itself is rebellion. Navigating courtroom showdowns, political intrigue, and deadly pursuits, he must outwit an empire built on deception. Alongside fierce allies like Madam Mboya and Simba Wanje, he unearths secrets that could topple the entire regime.

But will his defiance spark a movement, or will the weight of ambition crush everything in its path?

Rise of the Beast is a bold, brilliantly crafted read, relatable, riveting, and rooted in the now. I found this novel to be a most appealing and immersive story. It is very well written and with an intriguing emphasis on African myth, revolving around the emerging countryside of Kwetu and the vibrant city of Darkana. I commend the author's ability to cast characters that build and sustain the character of Bratha Mine, who is caught up on the wayside after the murder of Mboya, sparking an intriguing turn. The plot is well-conceived and includes some fantastical elements that add to the story effectively. The locales in the work are well realised, especially Darkana, and the writing is rich descriptive prose. This is a great addition to the genre of political thriller, contemporaries, and the coming of age of the African literature genre

"Descent of the Mighty Beast is a powerful reflection of African politics, showing how power can uplift or destroy. Bratha Mine’s journey from hopeful youth to hardened leader felt real and familiar. Blending folklore with sharp political insight, the story is both moving and thought-provoking. A brilliant read." ‎ ‎I highly recommend that you get a copy

‎Reading Descent of the Mighty Beast felt like watching the story of so many African nations unfold—full of promise, power struggles, and painful lessons. The author doesn’t shy away from showing how leadership, even when it starts with good intentions, can slowly twist under pressure, pride, and unchecked authority. ‎ ‎Bratha Mine’s transformation reminded me of real-life leaders who rise as heroes, only to become symbols of the very oppression they once fought. The way the story weaves in cultural beliefs, community expectations, and the weight of tradition makes it feel deeply authentic. You can see the tension between old ways and new systems, and how people get caught in the middle, just like in many African societies today. ‎ ‎It’s not just a political tale, though. It’s human. Emotional. Sometimes uncomfortably familiar. I found myself reflecting a lot on the idea of power: who gets it, how they use it, and what happens when they forget why they wanted it in the first place. ‎This book really stayed with me, and I think it will for anyone who’s seen or lived through the complexities of African politics with me, and I think it will for anyone who’s seen or lived through the complexities of African politics.

This is a wonderfully narrated tale. I cannot believe this is a debut novel from the author. He weaves complex themes of revenge, governance, and human resilience beautifully, with a touch of appetizing folklore. It's well written and has a great plot, with dense sharing of knowledge as the plot progresses. The suspense at the end is killing. The novel is just a masterpiece.

This was an absolutely interesting read. Descent is a captivating debut. The author masterfully intertwines political intrigue with rich cultural narratives and explores the complexities of power, tradition, and societal transformation. I loved Bratha Mine's journey from an ordinary youth called to action by fate, and the nuance of the overarching narrative. I have not yet been to Africa, where the setting occurs, but the seamless blending of folklore with contemporary issues transports me there. I have recommended this book to my students for the power of storytelling in illuminating the human condition.
