When you find out you are going to be forced to have extensive down time with radiation treatments, you can react in many ways. I choose to use the time to put down my reflections on my life and my thoughts about topics I wanted to share with my children, family, and close friends.

While facing 43 treatments I sure had time for 43 topics. My brother said I needed to share this outside family and friends. I hope you find some humor and commonality in spirit. Being a survivor of now two different cancers I think I am starting to understand just how precious life really is.

Tom Fahey is a husband, father, and a proud grandfather first and foremost. He is the ultimate sports nut, but not to watch, to participate. After a successful sales management career which took him all over the world, keeping him on planes and in hotels, he has averaged reading 90 books a year for over 40 years, and now, in retirement, is finally working on a promise to write.

This book is an absolutely delightful read! It is an autobiographical probe into the meaning of life......simply yet brilliantly expressed. It contains 43 selected topics in chapters that correspond with each of the 43 medical treatments the author received. The 43 chapter titles are short (eg. "Love", "Parenting", "Work", "High School") and the chapters themselves are easily read. Yet they contain powerful insights, strong opinions, plus excellent and humorous tales. Whether one agrees with the author or not, one cannot help but admire his fundamental goodness. Fahey describes himself as a pretty simple average American male, and no doubt in some ways he is. However, his prose is very fluid and his insight into human nature is keen. The story he tells is compelling. When you finish reading, perhaps you will reflect back on the chapters as I did......and realize that you could relate each one to experiences in your own life. I've read and studied much great literature, fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, and I really, really enjoyed this book.
