
Scottish First Minister accepts a copy of Newsboy from author Bill Fairbairn
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon accepts from author Bill Fairbairn a copy of his memoir, Newsboy, published a month ago by Austin Macauley of New York. The presentation took place during a reception at the Ottawa home of the British High Commissioner to Canada. The Scottish first minister had just arrived from New York to conclude a five-day tour of North America to raise trade and social links.
Newsboy, is a memoir of others who started his career by delivering newspapers and gradually moved up his way in the field of journalism to become editor emeritus and staff writer for a newspaper.
Fairbairn, 83, started his journalism career on the Jedburgh Gazette in Scotland in 1950. His book tells of his adventures in journalism from full-time work on 14 morning and weekly newspapers and with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Montreal. He is now editor emeritus and staff writer for the community newspaper Riverview Park Review in Ottawa. He also delivered newspapers in Scotland during World War II.
