A Young Person’s Field Guide to Finding Lost Shipwrecks is an autobiographical account penned by the marine geologist in charge of the survey, that features an archeological expedition. The story goes on to explain the everyday operations aboard a 37-meter research vessel, Hercules, and the life of the crew. The author attempts to explain the science behind a multibeam sonar including the technology used in the marine expedition. This true-life account of a nautical expedition features Cadiz, Spain where the journey begins. Three archeologists, three captains, one cook, two college students on a summer internship, two scuba divers, one seaman, one engineer, and the author embark on a journey to search for Santisima. Laurie Anne Zaleski is a passionate marine geologist who conducts geophysical surveys. For this purpose, she has traveled extensively from the Arctic Circle to Saipan and ahead. Her book signifies her love for science and has been penned for the essential fact that children need to find a link to themselves through science and math. This is her first book, and she firmly believes in giving back to the community by doing what you love. She’s also a member of EAGE (Women in Geoscience and Engineering) and AGU (American Geophysical Union).
