Speaking of her book, Caroline said: “I wanted to…open the conversation to how awkward it can be to grow up, how confusing it can be to grow up, especially in a society where women are expected to be shy and submissive and passive. I was the opposite of that.”
Born in the African town of Malawi, Caroline Kautsire now lives in Boston. In the early years of her life, she struggled with contradictory identities – being in African surroundings and also feeling the weight of American culture. Her writings, both poetry and prose, also reflect these themes of searching for an identity, struggling with intimacy, and learning to love. Her book is her life’s story. She works as a stage actress and director.
