Written by Laurie Anne Zaleski, a marine geologist, A Young Person’s Field Guide to Finding Lost Shipwrecks is an autobiographical narration of a journey to find Santisima. The book features a high-level archeological expedition that gives the reader an insight into the daily operations aboard a 37-meter research vessel, the crew, their life, and the science behind a multibeam sonar. It also explains the technology used in the search expedition and the scientific dynamics related to the search. It is a true-life account of a marine journey that begins at a dock in Cadiz, Spain. Three captains, one cook, two college students on a summer internship, three archeologists, one engineer, two scuba divers, one seaman, and the author all board the research vessel, Hercules, to begin their quest.
Laurie Anne Zaleski is a passionate writer who loves science and strongly believes in the fact that children through math and science should find a connection to themselves. This is her first book that showcases her admiration for scientific research. A marine geologist who conducts geological surveys, Laurie, is also a member of EAGE (Women in Geoscience and Engineering) and AGU (American Geophysical Union).
