Thinking Outside the Doll House
Dolls are everywhere. Turn on any TV show or play a movie in your DVD player and you will find dolls as props. Articles about dolls pop up everywhere. The internet is bulging with studies of Barbie, articles on Cabbage Patch Kids, advertisements on dolls, sites that sell dolls, doll blogs, doll videos, etc. There are even phobias connected with dolls and their cousins, automatons and robots. Mystery writers weave novel stories about dolls; poets pay them attention in verse.
There is no house without a doll! Even those who claim they have no dolls or don’t like them have had a doll or a doll-related object in their lives. Doll-related objects that fit the doll theme or what Lea Baten calls “The Doll Motif” are basically anything figural, portrait-related, loved as a doll or toy, a paper doll, or a stuffed animal.
Dolls rock! Read on!

This Is What They Call Teenage Angst
Struggles faced by teenagers and young adults are still struggles; they are not phases or trends. Sweeping emotions and experiences under a rug of nonchalance further ostracizes young people and it is unhealthy to do this. All emotions and experiences are valid. A person’s age should not influence whether or not we take what it is someone is going through seriously. We project this lie as a society: that if someone is truly struggling there would be major signs highlighting the fact that they are close to breakdown; but how would you know the signs if you don’t listen? How could you be able to identify the signs if you don’t pay attention? It’s not going to be written on someone’s forehead that they are experiencing negative emotions, and they won’t yell it at you over the noise of your ignorance. It’s time that we, as a society, stop belittling and invalidating other’s experiences as a way to keep ourselves comfortable. It’s time we look each other in the eye and say that we are not alone. You are not alone.

Three Weeks, a Lie
My brothers Al, Bob, and I witnessed our mom carried and dragged past us by men in white as we huddled against our living room wall. Dad arranged for Mom to be confined to a mental facility. He didn’t bother considering to soften our confusion by explaining Mom was sick or where she was being taken. Shortly afterward, Dad had us transferred to a “special school” for three weeks. Actually, we were transferred to an orphanage. Again, he didn’t bother preparing us for what was ahead of us; the least of which was the absence of family influences. Our mom endured eleven years in a mental facility. We endured eight and a half years in an orphanage. As if that wasn’t enough, Dad followed up a few years later telling us that Mom was gone. A lie. What would prompt any father, for no known reason, to elect to separate a family without explanation for his actions? Years of silence from him and family members failed to provide reasons other than “self-serving” on his part. The years separating Mom from us took its toll on the four of us. Separation, isolation, guilt, anger, loneliness, and adjustment were new experiences for the four of us to deal with.

Title Quests: A Complete History of the National Football League's Championship Series
Title Quests: A Complete History of the National Football League's Championship Series is a retelling of a fascinating series of championship NFL Football contests that have seen scores ranging from 7-0 to 73-0, dark suspicions of underworld interference, a game played just inshore from a roiling Gulf of Mexico hurricane, featuring teams with names such as the Boston Redskins, Chicago Cardinals, and Cleveland Rams. These games have been played in blizzards, downpours, and deserts, interrupted by power failures, featuring brothers versus brothers, witnessing wild comebacks and collapses, with a team winning the title in its very first year in the league, and marking the birth and death of dynasties. Torrential Rains
My mother was worried sick about me. She thought it would be a good idea for my brother Johnny to come and stay with me and Louis. She believed that Johnny would be able to protect me. I felt a little safer with Johnny there even though I still cried myself to sleep every night. One day Johnny told me he was leaving and going back to Gary. Instantly, I felt the fear rushing back into my body. He must’ve gotten into it with Louis. Johnny said he couldn’t stay there because Louis had a bad attitude.
My children don’t often ask me about their father. Maybe it’s because they’re grown now, and they somehow knew not to ask when they were younger. I did love him. And my children are here because of him. I’m thankful that God saved me and preserved my life in order for me to take care of my children. Maybe I forgave him because of them.

Treasure in Heaven: Live, Love, and Prosper
Many people don’t understand how and why they make financial decisions. Most people believe the financial decisions they make today are separate from the spiritual results tomorrow. There is no spiritual savings account, checking account, or payment plan. Financial decision making often reflects the condition of the heart, mind, and soul.
Most people believe in financial shortcuts. They believe they can ‘hit the jackpot,’ ‘strike oil,’ ‘hit the mother lode,’ and that ‘our ship has come in.’ All those expressions represent an immediate expectation of wealth and prosperity. Many people believe that once wealth and prosperity are received, then satisfaction, happiness, and peace soon follow. Our daily decision-making can impact our spiritual savings. We should consider: What are our resources? Where does the Lord fit into our financial planning? How do I measure success?
In Treasure in Heaven: Live, Love, and Prosper, the author explores how people make decisions. This book encourages people to engage in vertical communication with the Lord to improve the financial results in their lives. It encourages self-examination and the creation of a new definition of success and wealth.

Truly Said Devotionals - Volume One
Do you know you’re a just a bunch of stories? You are. And every one of your stories bears a punchline, or point, only the God’s Spirit reveals. When the Lord recites your narratives, He fires these epiphanic points that pour in light, resolving questions, dilemmas, and conflicts. Such illumination is what we refer to when we speak of 'ah-ha' moments. As a psychotherapist, I see this 'ah-ha' in my clients, as the Lord cognitively enhaloes truth in their trivial—or most idiomatically evocative—recollections. It’s a joy hearing, “What you said is so true!” and afterward the Holy Spirit’s own finishing quip, “Truly said, indeed.”
Truly Said Devotionals – Volume One is a book of my own stories and 'ah-ha' moments. I pray they inspire your relationship with that great teacher among us—Him who is the Holy Spirit.
