How did you become a sister? This is an overarching question that many people ask me. Behind becoming a sister is an amazing story.

Everyone in the world has a unique story. This book narrates the unique story of my life and the origins of my desire to become a sister.

My story started in Lirembe village in Kenya and continued on as I ventured to the new land of the United States of America for studies and work. In the book, I describe the places, people, religion, and events that shaped my social, religious, moral, and ethical perspectives.

This description intends to capture readers’ imaginations, emotions, and feelings about the origins of some of the African women religious, clergy, and brothers and, by extension, many people worldwide who resonate with my story. The thick description also illustrates what it means to be formed into and become a religious African woman living in Africa and abroad and how international students navigate their lives in US colleges and workplaces.

The book also compares and contrasts the African and American cultures, underscoring the nuances, dynamics, resonances, and consonances between the two cultures.

This is a Thanksgiving book.

In Long Waka with Jesus, Dr Gaston Nyabul di Kanza Mabaya retraces his steps from the days when he was a young lector and altar server in the Church in Yasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo), through the academic halls of Belgium, to the pulpits of the Roman Catholic Diocese of London in Canada.

It sometimes happens in our lives that we wonder about God’s presence. We ask ourselves a thousand and one questions. Why, for instance, does God allow this or that to happen? In Dr Mabaya’s case, the question arose several times. On each occasion, God proved to be present and faithful. Like most of us, he often asked himself this question again and again: “Where has my God gone?” especially when knowing how difficult a situation could be.

Odyssey of a Street

The Cardo book is a thriller intended for the lecture of students passionate about architecture, archaeology, and history that challenges and teaches. It is a provocation to confront riddles of town planning and history that lie in front of us, but one didn’t dare to “lift the glove’.

When an ancient game was discovered chiseled on one of the Cardo pavement stones, it was only the start of a whodunit. Only more archaeological diggings (11 pits on the 180-meter length of the street) brought up the solution three years later.

But why didn’t the archaeologists find any Roman remnants?

Here we direct the stage limelight on Justinianus, emperor of Byzantium, an ebullient personality and passionate builder.

The mistrust of the archaeologists in the vision of the architects dissipated, and it turned out to be a fruitful collaboration that went on for 12 years: a real odyssey of a discovery.

The book, which is richly illustrated and narrated by the leader of a team of architects that won the first prize in a national competition for the renewal of a part of the Jewish Quarter in 1971, teaches not only historical periods of the developments of Jerusalem through the ages but also touches on the architectural dilemmas of how to rebuild and integrate into part of the historical city of Jerusalem after the Six-Day War period.

Don't Be Upset, Live Happily

How much longer do you have to live in this world? Another 5, 7, 18, 30 or even 40 years of life?

What would you do if you received a medical diagnosis saying you only had two weeks to live?

How would you react if someone told you the exact date, day, and time of your death? Would you be upset, disappointed, sad, and depressed to the point of committing suicide because everything no longer has value, or would you celebrate the last years, months, or days of your life, full of smiles of joy, with your family, friends, and loved ones, spending all your money on parties and travelling all over the world? Let us be patient, let us be courageous, let us be bold and, above all, let us show gratitude every day! We do not have much time in this world, so we should not wait either; we should act now! We will have many difficulties in this life and many obstacles, but we must not stop. Let us make our dreams come true; tomorrow we will die! Try, and you will succeed! Do not accept sabotaging opinions that you are incapable and therefore cannot do this or that! You can!

This novel will make you reflect deeply on death and life and will even influence you, even if for a short period, to live much better, happy, smiling and recognising that, in the end, life is an offer and that we are not in this world forever.
