Poetsy
Everyone feels, but not everyone proves it the same way.
Some sing, others shout.
Some rhyme, others curse.
Some dance, others hit.
These are examples of how we try to get people to understand, “I’m feeling this way, and I want you to know about it!”
This book has some of my examples, and since I consider these healthy expressions, I hope they will help you find your own.

Poems on Eternity, the Endless Universe, and Me
Watterson’s musings press the limits of expression. Planck’s ultimately small 10-35 meters expands to the Sufi mystic’s Nothingness. Feelings expand from Issa’s compassion for the fleas on his deathbed to a glimpse of God’s anguish at [having to permit] the Holocaust, the price of Israel.
In one vignette, Watterson pictures the cosmos, endless universes, as dust particles at 30,000 feet disappear in the troposphere.
What is the effect? The effect, he says, is something like finding a long-lost reference. Or of having stumbled on the right person just now to tell about a rare instance of moral bravery in his youth.
The effect might be that just now innumerable originals of Beethoven are dipping their quills in ink and starting the seventh symphony. One need only imagine and listen.

Pilgrimage into the Womb of a Bantu Dynasty
Pilgrimage into the Womb of a Bantu Dynasty is an epic poem that explores the philosophical and traditional religious system of a 14th-century Dynasty that was fractured by many factors, including the triangular slave trade. It's a story about a teenage boy whose greatness was prophesied on his circumcision.
He was born preterm and ended up in the hands of an extended family member who passed away, leaving him at a teenage age as his mother did during his birth. In going through hard life and mistreatment, Nnam begins to self-educate to understand his environment and the traditional belief system. By the time he turns 25, he hadn't only become a proficient healer, and an indispensable theologian, standing parallel to the new European belief tenets that gained momentum as slavery gradually comes to an end. Even though a crusader of peace, Nnam successfully leads his people to a battle of land acquisition. As the ancestors' oracle, he attains the greatest wish to understand the mystery surrounding death in a revelation.

Mirror of Time
Thomas Roop has been fortunate enough to travel widely through his life, learning from a wide variety of cultures, traditions, and religions. These encounters inculcated and developed a love for humankind. While travelling through Denmark, he encountered and fell in love with the work of the 19th century poet, novelist, and playwright Hans Christian Anderson. The literature of T. S. Eliot, Carl Sandburg, Sylvia Plath, Maya Angelou, and others are all evident influences on Roop’s own work. All of these encounters inspired him to share his own ideas, reflections, and insights in this anthology of poetry.

Me and You - You and I
Madison Dorsay loves to put on paper the ongoing thoughts, conversations, sights and sentiments that surround us every day. In particular, Madison is drawn into the meanderings of wandering spirits and their intertwined relationships in an eternal love of life and each other, interrupted by the occasional interlude. The poems collected here reflect collective thoughts and considerations made during the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact they had on love, togetherness and the realization that we are never alone.

Longings
Once a friend-scientist asked me: “What is meant by the inner life?”
I answered: “Read my poetry.”
He read, and he said: “Now I know.”
Longings is a collection of the songs of a soul singing, crying, and laughing about the sun and the moon, reflected in the seemingly still waters of the lake, hiding the never-peaceful water-god and his court.
Longings paints the images of myriads of feelings and thoughts that find their lives in words. These words sketch the invisible world of pain, love, struggle, hope, hate, and all that our life offers us when we hear its voice.

Good Rain
Growing up in Kansas in the summer, the air would be so thick with humidity sometimes it would be difficult to breathe. Sometimes the air would be so heavy you would hope for a good rain. After it would pour you would walk outside and everything would feel lighter, brighter, greener, and cleaner. A fresh scent, like everything, was new. Sometimes life gets heavy like the humidity and your soul is the one that needs the good rain. This was mine.

Forbidden Love Songs
How can love songs be “forbidden”?
They can be when the love is between two men in the late ’90s and one person is already in a relationship with someone else.
This collection of poems is about falling in love when you’re 3,000 miles apart. The poems were written over the course of a few months at the beginning of a passionate yet challenging love affair. Many of the poems were actually written in airports after a tearful good-bye and not knowing when I would see him again. Some of the poems were written after my partner's tragic loss of his parents in a homicide/suicide. 22 years later, we’re still together today and I love him now more than ever!

An Owl's Tales
Life is a trail of crossing paths, some barely noticed, others with profound impacts. Did Santa bring that special football or the right Barbie doll? Did you pass that tough high school teacher’s course? Remember your first love? Was the pound puppy with sad but hopeful eyes ever chosen? Was the homeless beggar on the corner worth helping? The paths of Santa and teachers and loves and others who need help influence the course of our path, some for good, others not so much. But all of your paths make you, you.
Is it better to know or to feel what we should do? Maybe it doesn’t matter as long as the trail is guided by the heart. One man’s journey through a lifetime of crossed paths is portrayed in An Owl’s Tales. Some paths will sound familiar; some will challenge; some will motivate, while others will touch your heart. The wise old owl who sleeps with one eye open observes everything, reacts to little, but remembers. When your race is run, what will have been your important paths?
