Readers in Mechanicsville will have a chance to meet Lynda K. Roper, author of Backyard Rehabbing, at Hanover Book Expo 2026 on Saturday, November 14. The event takes place at VFW Post 9808, 7168 Flag Lane, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Admission is free for all.

Roper will join other authors from Virginia for a day of books and conversation. Visitors can check out their favorite titles, meet the writers and have books signed. Stop by to meet the author behind this book about caring for wild birds.

Backyard Rehabbing begins with an abandoned baby crow named Inky, brought home by Roper’s husband. Two years later, helping another injured bird leads the couple to begin training to care for wild birds themselves.

Along the way, they discover that caring for the birds is only part of the challenge. People’s fears and misunderstandings can also get in the way of helping them. The book shares experiences from their work and includes suggestions for readers who find an injured bird.

Roper and her husband, writer Carl Roper, spent more than ten years caring for wild birds. Her other creative work includes Star Trek stories and original knitting patterns. She lives just south of Richmond, Virginia.
