Meet David Preece & Jim Webber at The Bookery for Story Hour and Book Signing on November 23rd
Join us for a heartwarming children’s story hour and book signing event on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at The Bookery in Manchester, NH, starting at 11:30 am. David Preece and Jim Webber, authors of A Home for Mr. Higgins and Mr. Higgins Takes a Stand, will be sharing their beloved stories and signing copies of their books.
In A Home for Mr. Higgins, readers follow the journey of Mr. Higgins, a spirited black Scottish terrier in search of a loving home. Despite his playful but rambunctious nature, he struggles to find a family that can see beyond his quirks. At last, a kind-hearted family with two dads embraces him, teaching Mr. Higgins what true love and acceptance mean. The story highlights the themes of belonging, patience, and the unconditional love that comes with finding a forever home.
The adventure continues in Mr. Higgins Takes a Stand, where Mr. Higgins, now settled in his new home, faces a challenge that tests his courage. Though still struggling with self-doubt, Mr. Higgins finds the bravery to stand up against canine bullies and rescue a friend in need. This story addresses themes like overcoming bullying, building self-confidence, and the importance of helping others.
David Preece and Jim Webber are the proud adopters of the real-life Mr. Higgins, who inspired these stories. In 2014, they welcomed Mr. Higgins, a mid-life rescue dog, into their home. Initially shy and nervous, he gradually found comfort in his new life. The books are inspired by his journey from a timid dog to a confident protector, enjoying walks, fetch, and the love of a family.
David Preece is a nationally recognized Urban Planner and an award-winning playwright with several stage productions to his name, such as Charles Dickens’ Ghost Stories and The Picture of Dorian Gray. He has trained at esteemed institutions including Weber State University and UCLA.
Jim Webber, co-author, is known for his original holiday musical, Judy’s Scary Little Christmas, published by Samuel French Plays. With a rich background in set design, directing, and special events, Jim has made significant contributions to the theatre and arts community in New England.
