Join John L. Kessell to recount his 1958 travelogue
Join local author and historian John L. Kessell to revisit a defining chapter of his youth in a special event as he shares the story behind his memoir Around the World Not Counting Days. The event will take place on Thursday, August 14, from 6 to 7 pm. Kessel recounts a trip that started with uncertainty but turned out to be a life-changing journey. He had shown a glimpse of his time when life used to be simple, travel meant ocean liners, handwritten journals, and incredible adventures.
Around the World Not Counting Days reflects light on the travel journey of a freshly graduated 22-year-old boy in 1958, having no plans or acceptance letters, or job offers, which is known as a gap year nowadays. What started as a trip to his native land, Australia, to meet his relatives became a memorable journey filled with adventures from San Francisco to Sydney and far beyond.
A decade after his trip around the world, John Kessell didn't find himself a diplomat or international businessman but a published historian of the Spanish Colonial Southwest. So, he invites the readers to join him in remembering his travelogue.
