The protagonist of the story is a boy named Orphan, who is sent to America with his photo, birth certificate, and a note from his mother saying “Son, your father was a great man doing great things for Koreans, but I can’t keep you. Please forgive me…” His American parents use him and other adopted boys as free laborers. Returned and Reborn is about Orphan’s journey of self-discovery, from an anonymous boy to a man of commitments and objectives. His journey leads him to a new road of life. Therese Park came to the U.S. in October 1966 to work with the Kansas City Philharmonic in its cello section. She retired after 30 years and began her writing career. Her first novel A Gift of the Emperor was published in 1997. The novel was about Korean sex slaves. Park has also been a featured author at three national book fairs in 1998. Park’s second novel When a Rooster Crows at Night is based on her own experience as a child who experienced the three-year war (1950–1953). Her third book The Northern Wind: Forced Journey to North Korea is the story of an 18-year-old war orphan who becomes a South Korean spy having a mission to complete. Park has also written columns for The Kansas City Star-Opinion Page and the Star-Johnson County Neighborhood News. She has three daughters and four grandchildren.
