Autobiography of Maxene Raices Featured in Local Author Showcase in Library
‘The Land of Sunshine and Hell: A Memoir of a 60s Unwed Mother’ by Maxene Raices was showcased by Forsyth County Public Library. The heart touching book was highlighted by the library throw showcasing it.
‘The Land of Sunshine and Hell’ is a story from a time when sex before marriage was a taboo, unwed mothers were hushed about their pregnancies and abortions were not an option. Maxene was forced to put her child for adoption and although she married her lover but never got a chance to see her baby again.
Maxene Raices, holds a masters degree in adult education and a B.A. in English. She has worked in the USA and Canada and currently lives with her husband Lee.
