This book of poetry, in two parts, is by widely published author, London Fell, whose previous publications include 12 academic volumes and three novels. This poetry book centers on the state of New Jersey and its many historical sights and scenic views and the town and campus of Princeton, New Jersey.

Part I focuses on many historical places and many beautiful sights throughout the state and Part II also focuses on the sights, views and structures in the town of Princeton as well as the Princeton campus.

The many accompanying illustrations are designed to entice the readers into the worlds and words of history as well as the poetic scenes appropriate to the subject. Many of the structures in the state and the campus have voices in the poetry. Can you hear your voice in the poetry? Whose memories in the poems are being depicted and what central symbols of the Jersey shore are recognizable? What voices do you hear and can you as the reader visualize your own memories in this poetry? The many mysteries of poetry can give extra flights of imagination.

Poetry is the most expressive of the various forms of the written language. It allows one to describe events, experiences, people and emotions in an imaginative manner. The poems in this anthology illustrate the writer’s belief that the natural world and the emotions of the individual are interconnected. That the rhythm and imagination within the mind of the individual is inherent within the forces, the beauty of the physical world. The author believes that poetry, expressed in simplistic words can lift the heart, cause old romances to live again and transpose oneself into the natural world as a participant, not just an observer.

Memories of "A Kid from the Heights"

As the years go by and each step I take brings me closer to the end of my journey, coupled with the advent of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, I started reconnecting with many childhood friends via social media. The past two years of isolation brought the realization that this unique era we shared in a remote village during the 50s and 60s will never be available again to future generations, and that generations born after the 50s and 60s lose the likelihood of ever having an opportunity to experience this phenomenon with each passing generation.

With the encouragement of friends and acquaintances, I penned my Memories of Being a Kid from the Heights, how these experiences of ethics and morals molded our characters, and how these often comical encounters and responsibilities would benefit us while navigating life with our children. These two decades provided a lifestyle that evaporated and elapsed with each sun rotation.

The book examines why these men chose their careers, how they navigate their professional spaces, and the challenges they face from stereotypes and assumptions, both on and off the job. It also explores the unique advantages and limitations their gender brings, offering a compelling look at the dynamics of gender, work, and identity.

Mikey Speaks Out

On the day of my birth, my mother had already decided that she wanted to give me away. She had made this decision even though she had not yet known the extent of the problems that would confront me. As it turned out, there were many, including the fact that I was not born a beautiful baby.

Actually, I was considered to be quite ugly, disfigured by a cleft lip and palate that left a gaping hole in the middle of my face. In addition, I was born deaf, covered with bruises, and showed signs of haemophilia, an ancient life-threatening hereditary bleeding disorder.

I longed to be hugged, kissed, and cuddled in my mother’s arms, but that was not about to happen. Instead, I spent months in a hospital crib, as I recovered from complicated facial surgery. Following the surgery, I was placed in a dark room of a foster home, and left to languish in loneliness for several months.

On a dark snowy night, shortly before Christmas, a man and woman arrived at the home of my foster parents. They had driven five hundred miles through a blizzard, and requested to see me… see me! No one had ever before asked to see me! My only previous visits away from the foster home were trips to the hospital for painful medical procedures.

Militiaman

As the USSR crumbles, a young medical officer faces a pivotal choice: a promising military career or a new life in a shifting world. Opting for the latter, he joins Ukraine’s law enforcement – the militia – only to confront a harsh reality marred by violence, corruption, and despair.

In this gritty journey, he becomes entangled in a web of bribes, illegal activities, alcoholism, and nepotism, slowly eroding his hope for a better future. As disillusionment sets in, he realizes he must break free from a life devoid of promise.

Militiaman is a compelling tale of duty turned desperation, offering a stark look at one man’s quest for a new beginning in a world tainted by the darkness of its own making.
