We have polluted our planet with toxic chemicals, oil spills, reckless dumping of trash on land and sea, contaminating the oceans with fish and fowl killing plastic waste.

This book is the result of overwhelming outrage and disappointment with our species, our failure to adequately address worldwide problems that threaten our very existence. We (if there is a ‘we’) should be embarrassed and ashamed. Nature has endowed us with near perfect bodies and amazing brains and for the most part we squander our evolutionary inheritance. And the greatest gift of all, consciousness, is under-developed in most of us. In this collection of essays, the author offers insights into the human condition, the reasons we have run afoul of the natural order, along solutions to alleviate human suffering on an individual and global scale plus some playful jabs at our human folly.

Humphrey the Hippo and the Search for Milk

Deep in the mud pools and jungle forests of Hippoland lives Humphrey the Hippo. He is usually quite carefree compared to other hippos (who can be a bit grumpy at times). But one afternoon, he finds he is faced with a puzzle. Humphrey and his brother Harold are determined to make a cup of tea. But try as they might, they cannot find a key ingredient: milk.

So, they decide to consult their friend, Wilberforce the Wizard, for he knows everything. Wilberforce uses his magic to send the hippos to the land of Humans (even though Harold thinks humans are “mud sausages”). In the land of Humans, the hippos cause all kinds of chaos, involving grocery stores, credit cards and bananas - amongst other things.

But the two hippos persevere and return in triumph, with a carton of milk in hand, to Hippoland. However, their adventure is not over. They will still need the help of Wilbeforce the Wizard and his new mysterious friend, Clara.

After meeting in school and dating, Andy Thompson, and Milly Richards, grew apart and began their adult lives separately, though they still held strong feelings for each other. Arriving safely was one thing, finding the love of his life was something even more difficult in the destruction and chaos now engulfing the island. Reaching her last known location, Andy was upset to find she was gone and frantically searched the surrounding area until he was able to decide where she had gone and had a difficult time reaching her before they were able to plan how to safely leave the island.

I am now certain that my purpose is to be a voice for those who are suffering at this very moment from forced arranged marriages or stuck in cycles of abuse. My past made me who I am today, and while I wouldn’t wish what I’ve been through on anyone, I am proud of who I’ve become as a result. Fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, daughters and sons, I need you: without your help, this is just an empty dream. Together, we can save some of these innocent young girls and women, who in some cases are as young as five years old. Without your help, I can’t bring them to safety and provide them with the education and life lessons that will allow them to reach a brighter future. This is an issue that affects millions of women all over the world, including here in the US; we are all human, and together we can make a change.
