This book outlines the basic structures that make up the human mind and provides guidance on how a person can achieve greater freedom in managing their perception of reality, regulating their emotions, and making choices. It emphasizes that reality, in many ways, is a personal construct rather than something imposed from without. The book considers personal, social, and societal influences, offering an opportunity to examine their effects. It covers topics related to self-acceptance, needs, beliefs, values, emotions, temporal orientation, and dreams. Exercises are suggested to help the reader better comprehend how each topic relates to them personally and how to take steps toward making changes. The book has a spiritual orientation only insofar as it assumes the existence of a higher power and the continuity of consciousness through life and death. It is non-denominational and does not promote any particular religious beliefs.

Mel Stangeland holds a Ph.D. in clinical neuropsychology and is now retired after a 48-year career working as a psychologist in the fields of mental health and forensic psychology. He resides in British Columbia, Canada. He has always enjoyed learning about new things, travel and the arts. This is his first published work.

An engaging exploration and highly practical guide for those interested in a deeper understanding of who you are, the motivations that drive your behavior and emotions, and the ‘why’ behind the circumstances of your life. This book is an insightful journey into all aspects of ourselves, described in a way that feels familiar and relatable, helping us solve some of our greatest personal mysteries. A book ahead of its time when originally written, it was poised for the perfect time to reveal its wisdom to the world. Based on the premise that understanding and accepting ourselves is the basis for resilience when the world around us is chaotic, unpredictable, and out of our direct control, this book is profound, life-changing and timely. Given the current awakening consciousness of humanity, the time for this book is now!
