In the year A.D. 390, magic is both omnipresent and feared in newly Christian Rome. In an effort to revive their faith, three witches cast a curse on local leaders of the Empire’s new religion, subjecting them to demonic hauntings, possessions, and eventual death. Will the Iracundus family be able to survive the witches’ curse? Can the witches succeed in their quest for revenge?

Medea has always cherished her witch heritage, despite her family’s mistreatment of her. When her mother and grandmother decide to take action against the town’s mistreatment of them and their fellow believers, Medea initially supports their cause. However, when they unveil their plan for vengeance, Medea begins to question the morality of their actions.

As Medea attempts to convince her family to see reason and find a way to satisfy their desire for justice without resorting to revenge, she must navigate a difficult path that will affect not only herself but also her family, enemies, and the entire town.

Growing up about an hour north of Toronto, Nick Sutcliffe led the life of the typical high school loser. This in turn led him to delve into reading and writing fantasy as a means to escape the mundane boredom of daily life. Going to school for drama in Windsor, Nick found solider footing as he forged his path as an entertainer, writer and the self-proclaimed king of procrastinators.

I actually read this when it was posted online and can’t believe that it is actually getting published. The cover looks so cool and the back cover really covers what happens without giving any details away so all the twists and turns are still a surprise to new readers (which is great as that’s what those blurbs should do)! As for the actual story, Mr. Sutcliffe is quite good at getting the plot rolling and keeping that brisk pace that it almost feels like a movie: no scene is wasted or really feels like something that would get cut if and when Hollywood comes knocking. That being said, he does lose some points in my book, for this very thing as while his pace is quite fast in this regard, that speed can also detract when certain characters or moments should be allowed to breathe. And while I find no fault in this plot point myself, his continued use of twins can be slightly disturbing when you fully grasp what he is having them do (something that is truly prevalent in this with regards to both the characters of Mary and the Demon). I will say though that his way of both being quite blatant while also being somewhat subtle is quite impressive in its own right. I hope that this book does well so that more people become aware of his works and that more of them get published. He’s got some interesting ideas and takes on conventional tropes and stories that I’m looking forward to reading in the future. Congratulations Mr. Sutcliffe! I wish you all the best of success and luck with your future publications!

OMG! What storytelling, what suspense, what TALENT! He's a genius writer and I can't believe that this is the first time I'm hearing about him! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CONTINUE THIS STORY! It's a must-read for anyone interested in real-world fantasy!

Well, this was quite interesting! A friend of a friend was telling me that this would be up my alley, and she was right. It's a quick read; fun, bloody, and sexy all in one! Can't really ask for more except to say that I wish it was longer! The characters are compelling, and the plot is right out of a horror movie; Indie filmmakers are going to have a field day adapting this. How have I never heard of this author before? Is this his first novel? I'm very interested to read anything else he's written.

Having first seen this on Amazon, I decided to give it a quick read and figured that if I didn't like it I could always donate it to my local library on the off chance that someone else might like it when I didn't, but that idea quickly faded away. The characters are clear and distinct, the plot fresh and fast paced and the writing unlike anything that I've ever come across before. This is a great book and made me go searching for more from the author, and what I found didn't disappoint either. If I have one complaint (and it's a very minor one) is that it almost is too fast and that (SPOILERS!!!) nearly everyone dies at the end which leaves a sequel nearly impossible to contemplate. I can't recommend this book and author enough! 5/5 stars!
