Your reward will be learning how to care for the amazing monarch butterfly – starting in your own backyard!

Joyce Hoberg Kaatz has authored educational and devotional articles; this is her first book. Born in Ortonville, Minnesota, her career has been nursing but her passion is nature. She presently lives between her home on the prairie in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and her land on the lake near Park Rapids, Minnesota. Between these two places, she and her husband have been blessed to raise their children and host friends and family, foster children, exchange students, and yes, of course, butterflies.

Raising Little Stripe is unique in having a story section for children on each page, and also for an older helper it gives explicit directions for propagating and nurturing monarchs. The story is true science while being imaginative, and the illustrations are beautiful. The pages show a diversity of children's faces to appeal to racially diverse readers.

'Raising Little Stripe' is a book I would have loved using in my classroom when I was teaching students in the elementary grades. Over the years many children were so interested in this natural phenomena of change and wonder. This detailed, accurately instructive, and easy-to-follow book would help any child or adult understand and appreciate this process. The book is colorful with graphics and pictures and is interestingly written in a narrative from Little Stripe along with explanations woven into each section. It certainly stirs a passion for understanding and appreciating our beautiful monarch butterfly. This would be a wonderful book for any parent or grandparent for a connecting and sharing experience with a child or grandchild.

A beautifully illustrated book about caring for the Monarch Butterfly, relatable to all age readers from children to grandparents. Inside the book is both a fun children's story and a step by step guide to bringing a Monarch butterfly to flight. As you read about the transformation from egg to butterfly, there are lessons not only about the life cycle of the butterfly but also about life.

Raising Little Stripe by Joyce Holberg Kaatz is a delightful addition to the library of any child or adult who loves nature. The interesting placement of a charming story for children alongside facts about Monarch butterflies, as well as directions on how to identify and raise them, makes this an enjoyable journey through the life of a butterfly. Parents, grandparents and teachers will enjoy using the step by step directions on how to raise a Monarch from egg to adult to help their little ones experience the miracle of the life cycle of the butterfly. I give this book a shining five stars!
