A Fast-Paced Thrill Ride! This book is GRITTY!! If you are reading a crime story that takes place in NYC and GRITTY is not in the description, something is glaringly wrong! It's a clear RED FLAG. Again, Marked is GRITTY!! As a native NYer who has since left the Big City, I have a saying about my hometown. NY has the BEST... and the WORST... of Everything! Marked is a quick thrill ride that captures that essence of NYC including a world-class Prep School for the uber-rich, a Wall Street Investment Firm, secret societies, and very exclusive, invite-only events, all the way down to mom & pop store basements where local mobsters met out their own brand of justice. The story takes you on a quest to find the missing niece of an NYPD Detective who gets caught up in an International Pedophile Sex Trafficking's Ring. He brings in an American Indian to help him find the missing niece and to dance around internal bureaucratic policies that are required of NYPD. The author does such a good job of painting a visual picture that I found myself trying to decide which actors would play the main characters from the book in the movie version. As I finished this book, I pushed back from my desk and said "WHEW! WHAT A RIDE!!"
Marked is a fast-paced gripping story that pushes you through the pages wanting more until you reach the end. The three main characters utilize and coordinate their unique “occupational skills” to conduct an investigation amongst the drama of NYC's diverse communities. Along the way, the author sprinkles interesting kernels of historical and geographical facts into the plot. The raw and earthy prose effectively authenticates the characters and makes the story screenplay ready. There are enough twists and turns in the plot to satisfy most mystery and crime novel, readers. For a debut novel, Marked hit the mark.
Fierce, Racy, Bold, and Imaginative. Just when you think you have a grip on the story, one Word changes Everything. MARKED is Big Screen Ready!!!
As soon as I pick up the book my biggest issue was putting it down. I tried to finish it in one day but work got in the way. Being a native of both New Yorker and Hoboken. Frank took me right through the neighborhoods with pinpoint accuracy. Which made the whole ride feel real. The plots and twist are gonna have you all over the place guessing who, what and why? So get ready to refill your tea, turn on the lights and get your read on. It's gonna be a bumpy ride, just like the NYC subway.
