  • Alan Stark, Former Colorado Mountain Club Publisher

Even if you are not a mountain person Alan Apt’s descriptions of the natural world and climbing will make you want to go spend some time in the mountains. And if you already love mountains, it will be hard to put this book down as it weaves a tale of adventure, friendship, love, tragedy and laughter in a story as riveting as the roar of an avalanche and as pleasing as a warm wind blowing though the wildflowers at 10,000 feet. Keyboard of the Wind is a tour through time and climbing not to be missed.

  • Dan Bowers, Former McGraw-Hill Editor

A great read which invited me to take a trip down memory lane.

  • Jack Gephardt, Colorado Author

This bold, fast moving novel adds meat and bones (and even gristle) to the dream of any kid who once climbed the steep hill in city park, was happy and proud of his feat (and feet) and wanted more. This is the ‘more’. Apt has created a layered, multi-faceted mountaineering novel that unfolds like an extended trek into the valleys and peaks of the lives of those who can’t resist climbing mountains only ‘because they are there’, but more directly because such climbing offers the physical, mental and emotional challenges worth engaging for the visionary life vigor such challenges express and enhance. If you can’t climb a mountain, this is the next best thing. The excitement is irresistible.
