Jack, a precocious nine-year old adventurer, awakens to discover that her grandfather has already departed on a mountaineering expedition to the lost city of Shambhala deep in the Himalayas.

Sadly, he neglected to bring three key items – his mountaineering goggles, map, and compass. With courage and resolve, Jack follows in the footsteps of her grandfather and the Royal Geographic Expedition.

By train, ship, bi-plane, elephant, and pony, she crosses distant seas and lands to come to the expedition’s aid.

Along the way, Jack encounters historic female explorers of the past who encourage our brave young adventurer on her journey.

Todd Bacon is a former attorney and educator. He has a passion for the outdoors and believes that some of our greatest personal growth occurs when we are challenged in the context of natural wonder and adventure. Todd and his wife live in Laramie, Wyoming, where he is a professional ski instructor and member of the Snowy Range Ski Patrol. In the summers, you can find him river guiding, mountain climbing, and writing about Jack's next adventure. Jack and the Royal Mountaineering Expedition to Shambhala received an honorable mention in the 2021 Wyoming Writers Contest.
