Loretta "Lolly" Novak has a great job as a project manager for a construction company in San Francisco. She likes to work hard and play hard. But when she begins to experience her life in a male-dominated world, Lolly realizes that the hat she chose to wear is harder than she ever imagined.
C. Atkinson derived her pen name from her given name, Charlene; her nickname, Cricket; and her maiden name, Chopnak. Born and raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA, she attended the University of Pittsburgh and received a degree in Civil Engineering. She was recruited out of college to work at a major construction company in San Francisco. She currently lives in Penngrove, CA, with her husband, Kerry, and cat, Mango.

Such a funny, intelligent and insightful book of women in a man's dominated field. Highly recommend it!

My father and brothers and now nephews ( not nieces) were and are in the business. I got the book on Kindle and it was terrific. I only wish you had written more from your years in the business. Your humor, hard living and love for the construction workers was particularly thought provoking and rewarding for the reader. Many thanks for making it such a pleasure to read.

I bought this book to read over a weekend getaway when the book first came out. I ended up reading it in two sittings as I really cared about the main character and wanted to know how things went for her both professionally and personally. This book gives one some insight into the struggle women have had, to be taken seriously and make their mark in the construction industry. Since this is true in so many fields, it has a universal appeal and can be appreciated and enjoyed by all.

As a guy who worked in the industry for 40 years, it was really eye/mind-opening to hear the story from a women's point of view. One who could hold HER own in the heat of the construction battle and still remain true to herself, at the same time. With brutal honesty, sincerity, and humility, Lolly gave me a rare look back in time into what was going on around me, but yet something I never really understood until now. Thanks, Cricket. All construction "guys" should read this fun and entertaining book. Can't wait for the sequel?
