Dun Lei was born in China and moved to the U.S. at age 24. Now xe is a software engineer working at a U.S. University. Although a political dissenter against the current Chinese leadership, Dun served as the leader of a CSSA (Chinese Student and Scholar Association) for two years outside the career. This experience has given xem a deeper insight into Chinese society and the government from both an insider’s and an outsider’s perspective, which xe weaves into xyr writing.

Dun has published two poems in English, and one essay in Chinese. Having written most of xyr works in xyr mother tongue first, xe has started to self-translate some of them into English now. Through this process, xe hopes to help English readers better understand their identities. This is xyr first published book in English.
