Dr. James Jones practiced medicine for over three decades as an academic surgeon winning teaching awards and being repeatedly asked to be a visiting professor. He was a faculty member at Tulane and the Baylor College of Medicine under Dr. Michael DeBakey during the golden age of cardiovascular surgery. He earned a doctorate in cell biology and studied how cancer cells multiply and heart muscle energy sources. Clinical output was immense as was the academic output; three books and over 400 other publications resulted. Retirement took place at the University of Missouri where he was distinguished professor and Chairman of the Surgery Department.
