Alan Friedman began his writing career as a reporter with The Star-Ledger of Newark, NJ, where he covered professional and college sports, general news and state government. He also spent nine years as a Congressional aide in the U.S. House of Representatives. While in Washington, he was a songwriter for the political comedy troupe, The Capitol Steps. He is a self-taught pianist.
